Cleaver-Brooks Introduces Model M5M High-Pressure, Low NOx Boiler for Small Process Applications

Thomasville, Georgia:  January 25, 2016

Cleaver-Brooks designed the Model M5M packaged watertube boiler to meet today’s energy and emissions standards. This compact boiler is engineered for steam applications up to 500 psig, hydronic comfort heating to 180°F or process water temperature to 410°F. It is also environmentally friendly out of the box. It achieves NOx emissions <20 ppm and CO emissions <10 ppm for natural gas across the firing range. This boiler is available in capacities ranging from 47 HP to 143 HP.

The M5M boiler is unique in that it’s a very industrial-type boiler in a small footprint,” said Victor Cerbins, product manager for Commercial Watertube Boilers at Cleaver-Brooks. “It maintains peak operating efficiency, even during low system demand.”

Model M5M’s integral, premix burner and linkageless control automatically adjust the air/gas mixture for maximum efficiency and optimum turndown. The burner achieves a symmetrical 360-degree, even-temperature heat output to provide clean combustion.

The M5M features high-performance, membrane-wall construction. Energy released during clean combustion flows from the water-cooled furnace into the convection tube banks, a design used by power plants for superior performance. The inner and outer rows of tubes are sealed tightly, and the gas-tight construction is verified with a factory air test that ensures combustion byproducts will not leak into the boiler room.

The M5M boiler has several applications. It is designed to handle small batch loads required by food processors, feed mills and chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Its compact size can increase boiler room floor space by as much as 50 percent. The Model M5M measures 33 inches wide with the gas train and some trim items removed, so it can easily fit through a standard doorway.

The boiler is also ideal for a hydronic hybrid system because its burner and controls easily integrate with condensing boilers. Its Falcon lead/lag control is capable of optimizing the Model M5M’s combustion and thermal performance characteristics to sequence and modulate the boiler to maximize system efficiency.

In addition, the Model M5M is a good auxiliary boiler in cases where running a large boiler is not necessary all the time. Switching to this boiler during light-load situations will increase system efficiency and reduce operating costs.

The Model M5M is available as a single-source, skid-package solution. The package includes the steam boiler, feed system and blowdown separator with optional chemical feed system and water softener. The boiler system is pre-piped and wired, which reduces installation time and possible connection errors in the field.
